  • Other en This is a proposal for a teaching method in English writing classes, especially for writing of the abstract of the fifth-year students' graduation thesis. The proposal has two aspects - semantic and syntactic aspects. The former is reflected in consciousness-raising on the gap between the English/Japanese ways of setting subject and predicate, and the latter is reflected in presenting the typical patterns of complex/compound sentence patterns and the use of noun clause structures. It is expected that giving systematic instructions in these two aspects contributes to the students' writing skills.
