Abstract
In this paper, I explore the lifestyles of elderly women engaged in voluntary community works at a family clinic in Sapporo City. Through analysis based on a group narrative methodology, which is a major tool of health ethnography in my research, one pattern I was able to discern concerned the elderly's acts of remembering. Specifically, the active practice of remembering played a major role in the women's approach to aging. Further exploration of the role of memory in old age is necessary because it is an important aspect in understanding what it means to grow old.
