内容注記	Other This paper attempts to reconsider Kumamoto-Hyoron in the context of the political movement in Kumamoto. Kumamoto-Hyoron is a newspaper which was published in Kumamoto from 1907 to 1908. In Kumamoto-Hyoron the argument about “freedom” was discussed from the perspective of socialism and anti-imperialism. Through that point of view, it called on the readers to become aware of their oppressed circumstances and take some action to gain “freedom”. In addition, it paid attention to and honored the “rebellious spirit” of the past movement for freedom and people’s rights in Kumamoto and the socialist movement of Tokyo at that time. In conclusion, I claim that, taking into consideration the conservative political environment of Kumamoto, Kumamoto-Hyoron was unique in that it declared “freedom” and argued for a return to the “rebellious spirit”.
