The flow structures in bends of narrow open channels are considered to be affected by the configuration of cross section. This study aims to clarify the secondary flow structures in curved compound open channels with small width-to-depth ratio, experimentally. The effects of flood-plain width,flood-plain roughness and depth ratio between main channel and flood plain were examined. The secondary flow structures driven by centrifugal force were divided into main channel vortex and flood plain vortices. The developing process of the secondary flow strength was not so much changed from the rectangular case. When the roughness of the flood plain is large, the outer flood-plain vortex becomes strong. The longitudinal variation of the primary mean velocity was increased on the flood plain.
