Description
  • Abstract en Japanese passive voice has been studied based on the construction of its corresponding active voice sentence are denominated, such as Direct Passive, Indirect Passive, Intransitive Verb Passive and so on. This study highlights issues with this analysis and proposes“malefactive passive construction" in contrast to“benefactive -TE MORAU construction" without any consideration of corresponding active voice sentence patterns. One Japanese active voice sentence can produce several types of passive sentences. There is no one-to-one relationship between an active sentence and a passive sentence. in Japanese This article argues that more importance should be put on semantic elements of passive construction of Japanese. because passiive sentences with human complements usually imply negative effects on one of the human elements that appears in the sentence.
