Description
  • Abstract Short-term earthquake prediction is considered to be an urgent subject for the countries likeJapan with high seismic activity. Because it is concluded about 10 years ago that the former andconventional seismic measurement of crustal movements is not appropriate for ear thquakeprediction. Hence, any other, non-seismic method is highly required to be developed. During thelast decade there have been accumulated a lot of convincing evidences on non-seismicelectromagnetic effects, which would be a very promising candidate for short-term earthquakeprediction. This report describes the histor y of earthquake prediction study and the presentsituation of this particular science field of seismo-electromagnetics. Also, we present some of ourlatest results on the seismo-ULF emissions and seismo-ionospheric perturbations. Finally, wemention the important role played by our university and our Research Station on SeismoElectromagnetics in this science field and then we comment on our future direction.
